Air enters the case mostly at the bottom, but the slot covers directly above and below the graphics card are open as well, so some air will enter through them, theoretically creating some cool airflow in the vicinity of the gpu heatsink.

So coolers like the VF should have an advantage over them if this solution works. The thing to remember is that the passive card isn’t dumping any more heat into your case than an actively cooled one.

No, Glgabyte am not saying a heatpipe card should be isolated from the rest of the case, quite the opposite, they cannot be isolated easily because they dump heat to both sides of themselves. What mathias meant is that a card that can be cooled with a small passive heatsink, as opposed to the giant heatpiped monstrosities on Gigabyte’s passive series, are cooler.
